What is Financial Planning?

Financial planning is a process designed to help you meet your personal life goals through the proper management of your finances.  Life goals can range from saving for a comfortable retirement to buying the sailboat you have always wanted.  Proper financial planning:

  • gives direction and clarity to your financial decisions;
  • puts you in charge of your financial life; and
  • is client driven, not product driven.

Why do I need a Certified Financial Planner (CFP®)?

The role of a financial planner is to turn a trained eye on your big financial picture.  A financial planner helps you to clearly see where you are now, where you want to be in the future, and what you must do to reach your life goals.  At SS+D Financial, we adhere to the strict fiduciary standards of the Certified Financial Planner Board of Standards, Inc.  Hiring a Certified Financial Planner® (CFP®) will give you peace of mind in knowing that your advisor is working in your best interests.  A CFP®, like those at SS+D Financial, has extensive training and expertise in investments, insurance, tax, estate planning, and retirement planning.

What will a Financial Planner do?

The financial planner will: (i) collect your financial information; (ii) analyze that information to create a clear picture of your current financial situation; (iii) use that information to assist you in realistically defining your life goals; (iv) recommend specific actions you can take to reach your goals; and (v) revisit and update your plan as your circumstances and goals change.

How is a Financial Planner paid?

Many financial planners get paid for their services by charging commissions on products they recommend and sell to their clients.  At SS+D Financial, we do not sell products.  Instead, we are fee-only financial planners, so we have no financial incentive to recommend that you buy products that may not be right for you.
